Gene Fridman, PhD, President is the inventor of the MouthLab. He is an NIH funded, Assistant Professor of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery and Biomedical Engineering at Johns Hopkins University. He has over 20 years of experience as an engineer working both in the medical industry and in academia. Dr. Fridman has successfully led engineering teams toward completing projects in the industry and in academia and served as a paid technical consultant on a wide range of commercial engineering projects. Gene Fridman holds a BS in Computer Engineering from the University of Kansas, MS in Electrical Engineering from Purdue University, and a PhD in Biomedical Engineering from UCLA.
Multisensor Diagnostics develops the technology for conducting rapid medical assessment in a doctors office, emergency room, for home care nurses, and for consumers at home.
The optimal technology will:
Maximize number of measurements
Maximize intelligence of the device
Minimize time needed to obtain the measurements
Simplify usability
We go to a doctor when we feel pain or discomfort. Often when we arrive at the doctor’s office or the emergency room, we find out that we waited too long and now we have limited therapy options, or we find out that we did not need to rush to a doctor after all. A smart device that evaluates potential medical problems will help those with no medical training make more intelligent decisions about when they should seek healthcare.
It will improve healthcare in underdeveloped regions, reduce the number of visits to the emergency rooms, and improve therapy outcomes by detecting problem early. MouthLab will allow preemptive diagnosis of health problems before the condition requires emergency intervention. It will be a “check engine light” for humans.
In the future we will add measurement capability (e.g. non-invasive blood sugar testing for diabetes, detect saliva and breath biomarkers for various infections, test metabolic rate) and more intelligent algorithms (e.g. intelligent ECG analysis to screen for a heart attack, stethoscope-like detection of breathing patterns to detect lung problems).
